I've known Esther for many years and worked with her on many photoshoots. A while ago I asked her if she could give me some makeup tips for different occasions. After giving birth to my son at age 40 and my, due to aging, changing skin, I’ve been having some trouble with my old makeup ways. My skin is different from when I was 35, and for instance, my eyelids are starting to lose firmness and cute eyeliners seem to belong to the past, or maybe not?

The 5 “easy to apply yourself” looks Esther gave me, helped me a lot to make slight changes to my own routines. I thought it would be a great idea to show you how Esther applies her own looks to her beautiful self. On the left picture, she is wearing no makeup at all, on the right picture you see the result of the look.

Esther:

“I love dressing up and playing with stronger colors in my make-up when I go to a festival during the summer. Of course, you should always use a moisturizer with a good SPF, to protect your skin from the sun while being outdoors all day long. Sunshine is lovely to enjoy, but it is aging your skin, so protection is a must!

In summer I always like to wear as little foundation as possible, to make sure my skin can get rid of its heat easily, it is of no use sweating off your foundation and it is outside, in the sun, is nicer without a thick layer of foundation.

Just apply a bit of concealer where you need to cover some shadows, pigmentations, or other spots. Cover a bit of red on your nose and cheeks if necessary. Then add a little touch of concealer with a beautiful glow, like the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood flawless filter, on your cheekbones, to light up your skin.

The legendary brows from Charlotte Tilbury gives my brows some definition and the gel holds my brows in place. Some color on my cheeks with the Ellis Faas blush, a beautiful peachy tone. Don’t use too much blush on your cheeks, as you are planning to use more color in your festival makeup, maybe even some glitter. Always keep a balance!

For my eyes, I create a nice eyeliner with the creamy eyes E124 bij Ellis Faas, because of its long-wearing formula it stays on perfectly well. To create an even eyeliner; start from your outer corner and work towards your inner corner of your eye. Of course don’t be shy with your mascara or maybe even put on some extra lashes, you are going to a festival! If wanted, use a kohl pencil in your eyes to give them as much definition as possible.

For my lips I picked a bright pink color, but use a lip pencil first to prevent your lipstick from bleeding into the fine lines on your upper lip. You can easily use a lip pencil to make your lips look a bit fuller if desired. After the lip pencil you apply your hotlips by Ellis Faas. I love using the hotlips because they have great pigment, it stays on really well and don’t dry out your lips.

Have fun!

And remember, play with colors but keep a nice balance, don’t overdo it.”
