This is Dorothé (57), she lives and works in Amsterdam. As a photographer I have a fascination for all sorts of faces and if I were a painter, like one of my favorites Modigliani, I would paint her endlessly.
So I felt blessed to have just a few hours to portay Dorothé. Everything about this woman is interesting and impressive, she’s very tall, has beautiful thick long hair, skin as pale as snow and the most non-symmetrical face I have ever photographed, fascinating and beautifully imperfect.
But more than that there was also her life, as a woman, as a wife, as a mother of two, a content writer and beside that, as an entrepreneur that is starting up a small scale sustainable clothing label that is appreciated by young rappers as well as trendy people her own age.
What do you do for work?
I am a content writer. Beside I am starting up a small scale sustainable clothing label. Writing and textiles are my passion.
Tell us something surprising about yourself.
Starting a clothing label -as an over 50- that is appreciated by young rappers as well as trendy people of my age. I make sustainable, one of a kind pieces, based on recycled pure silk scarves. The forgotten scarves have amazing patterns.

Bol.com. I always have inspiring books on my bedside table with real life stories and philosophical or spiritual reflections. They inspire me in dealing with life issues.

Greatest new discovery?
I learn and discover every day, small or big things. It never stops. For me an important motive.
My last discovery? That nutrition is even more important than I already thought. It has everything to do with how strong and healthy you feel, mentally and physically. Nutrition that fits your person helps to avoid medical treatment. It is a fascinating, ongoing journey to fully understand how nutrition works.
Biggest risk?
My mother died young from breast cancer. After the birth of my first son I didn’t dare have more children, afraid that history would repeat. When I realized that I was already a little dead because of this fear, I was able to throw it away and choose for live. And for the birth of my second son, now 15 years old.
Can you describe your fantasy version of your older self?
I see myself as a non-stoppable wise old woman who continues life and work without thinking of her age as long as possible. She doesn’t want to be framed in the cage of the old. She is well dressed and feels what’s in the air.
What’s coming up that you’re most excited about?
I am looking forward to Lowlands.
What’s your greatest fear?
Getting bitter and cranky. And making myself meaningless because of that. I always look around me for inspiring mature women that impress me. Last year I met Patty Smith. She is 72, very positive and she gives great shows full of energy. On insta she writes positive, not judging little texts where she often describes her gratitude for small and bigger things.
What makes you happy?
Wondering, learning new things, collecting wisdom, socializing, good conversations, respect, light, birds, green, beauty, music, feeling space and freedom.
