I work as a project manager in mental healthcare with mentally challenged people.
Many people are being excluded from our society because they are unable to participate. I organize special or everyday activities to make up daily life.
Happiness to me is being in good company and feeling the connection. The simple things give joy, like having a duet sing with friends. But also walking and talking with friends, with coffee to go. Happiness is a road trip with husband and dog with the radio on and homemade sandwiches. But I also love to dress up and go out for lunch. A perfect lunch ends with my feet in the sand on the beach.
Aging is a process. You have to be friends with yourself, and acceptance is the first step. Accept the changes rather than going into a conflict…it will not help you. What will help is enough sleep, outdoor activities like daily walks, and a balanced diet. I cut down on alcohol; I drink but only a glass of wine instead of ordering a bottle. I drink lots of water and try to get lots of sleep. I always try to stay in touch with my inner child and never stop learning new things. I love long walks, and I always try to be kind to other people. I want to be the person that makes others feel included.
I am 61 but one part of me is still an 11-year-old who wants many adventures in life. When I fantasize about my older self, I see myself still wearing Cashmere jogging suits with sneakers and vintage dressing gowns with pretty prints. I am surrounded by lots of animals, my favorite dogs, donkeys, and piglets. I live in a small village in the South of France, shopping the local markets for fresh veggies, and cooking healthy lunches for friends. And of course, I will dress up to go to the city and visit art exhibitions.
