After a few weeks this Spring, we took a break and escaped to the sun-drenched shores of Bonaire.
We flew with Corendon, which was smooth and comfortable, and for our stay on Bonaire, we chose the penthouse at Bliss Bonaire, one of the six unique properties managed by Boutique Bonaire Resorts.
This collection of small-scale resorts is thoughtfully spread across the island, each offering its own distinctive charm and ambiance.
The Bliss Bonaire penthouse provided a perfect blend of comfort and style. The spacious layout featured an open-concept living area adorned with vibrant Caribbean colors and modern furnishings. Large sliding doors opened onto a private terrace, offering panoramic views of the lush surroundings—a perfect spot for morning coffee or evening relaxation.
One of the standout features across Boutique Bonaire Resorts is their commitment to wellness and relaxation. Each resort boasts a magnesium pool, known for its therapeutic benefits and gentle effect on the skin. The serene pool areas are complemented by tropical gardens and comfortable lounge spaces, creating an oasis of tranquility.
The attentive and personalized service further enhanced our experience. The staff were always available to assist with recommendations, reservations, and any special requests, ensuring a seamless and memorable stay.

Their dedication to providing a unique and intimate experience makes them a top choice for those looking to immerse themselves in the beauty and culture of Bonaire.

Bonaire is a small and quiet island in the southern Caribbean, just off the coast of Venezuela. It’s part of the Dutch Caribbean, and you can still feel a subtle European influence in everyday life – from the language to the architecture. Historically, Bonaire was once a Spanish colony in the 1500s before becoming part of the Dutch territories. Today, it’s known for its commitment to nature conservation, especially marine life, which makes it a top destination for divers and snorkelers from around the world.
The island itself is peaceful and unspoiled. There are no big crowds or high-rise hotels – just a relaxed rhythm, friendly people, and endless views of blue water and cacti-covered landscapes.

Sorobon Beach: A Tranquil Paradise for Water Enthusiasts
Nestled on the southeastern coast of Bonaire, Sorobon Beach is a serene haven renowned for its pristine white sands and shallow, turquoise waters. Part of the expansive 700-hectare Lac Bay, this beach offers a unique combination of natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
The beach is particularly famous for windsurfing, thanks to the consistent trade winds and the bay’s shallow depth, which rarely exceeds one meter. This makes it an ideal spot for both beginners and seasoned windsurfers. The surrounding mangrove forests not only enhance the scenic beauty but also serve as vital ecosystems supporting diverse marine life.
Reef Bar: Culinary Delights by the Sea
Adjacent to Sorobon Beach, the Reef Bar at Sorobon Luxury Beach Resort offers a delightful dining experience with panoramic views of Lac Bay. Open daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, the bar serves a diverse menu ranging from hearty breakfasts to gourmet dinners.
Guests can indulge in fresh seafood, including lobster, complemented by a selection of fine French wines. The ambiance is relaxed, with options to dine indoors or on the beach, allowing patrons to savor their meals while enjoying the gentle sea breeze and stunning vistas.

Number Ten: A Stylish Coffee Retreat in the Heart of Kralendijk
Tucked along Kaya Grandi in downtown Kralendijk, Number Ten is more than just a café—it’s a thoughtfully curated space that blends vintage charm with modern elegance. Housed in a beautifully restored historic building, the café features high ceilings, exposed stone walls, and antique furnishings that create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Inside, you’ll find a mix of rustic and contemporary decor: think antique buffet cabinets, hanging plants, and soft lighting that together craft a cozy yet sophisticated setting . The attention to detail is evident in every corner, from the carefully selected furniture to the artful presentation of their dishes.
The outdoor patio is equally charming, offering a tranquil spot to enjoy your coffee amidst the gentle Caribbean breeze. It’s a popular spot, so reservations are recommended, especially if you prefer a specific seating area.
Whether you’re stopping by for a morning espresso or a leisurely lunch, Number Ten provides a delightful escape with its blend of quality offerings and aesthetically pleasing environment.

Besides lounging on the beach, there’s plenty to do on Bonaire. You can go snorkeling or diving in some of the clearest waters in the Caribbean, explore the salt pans and flamingo-filled lakes, drive through Washington Slagbaai National Park, or take a sunset sail. The island is small enough to explore fully, but rich in character and beauty.
Bonaire left us feeling recharged and inspired – we’ll definitely be back.
