Today is worldwide International Women’s Day, on this day we celebrate women’s achievements, from the political to the social, while calling for gender equality.
IWD has been observed since the early 1900s (the Suffragettes started IWD, with the first officially named “international Women’s Day” event held in 1911), and is now recognized each year on March 8. The theme for International Women’s Day 2019 is “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”.
Whilst shouting the praises of the amazing women around you is appropriate all year round, I am so here for all of the social media appreciation posts, events, and marches that go on at this time of the year.
EMPOWERED WOMEN EMPOWER WOMEN.”
I am proud to know and connect with many inspiring, bright, and brilliant women who continue to shape, teach and encourage me in all I do. “Empowered women empower women” and I know I count myself lucky to be surrounded by women who are making moves, spreading positivity, and causing serious changes. For me, International Women’s Day is about celebrating them and all that they are doing. I will be forever grateful for their time, love and brilliance, and only hope I can impact others’ lives as they have mine.
As modern-day Suffragettes – female, male and all genders – let us continue the work and spirit of the almighty Suffragettes, fighting the good fight. And let us recognize, honor and celebrate the important and impressive achievements of women globally. Let us also be an inspiration for younger generations and show them that aging is a beautiful journey. Whether we know it or not, we’re subtly reinforcing the message that aging is a condition we need to battle. Changing the way we think about aging starts with the way we talk to our daughters, granddaughters, friends, the young women around us.
