What’s the Biggest Risk You’ve Ever Taken?
The biggest risk? Definitely to open my own vintage clothing store called “Voor-gedragen” two years ago. After a life of hardworking on the payroll for several companies, I now run my own business. I am so proud of myself and the support of my husband and friends.
“Voor-gedragen” means as much as previously worn.
What would you say is the strangest thing about becoming an older woman?
Life indeed is becoming better, more relaxed. Most definitely in your mind, but my body is not always accepting the age that I have. I think I can still do a split if I want to… the reality is different. But I am happy with my mind, it’s more accepting and picks up the best things in life.
What’s the best part of getting older for you?
What I like best about getting older is that I worry less about what people think of me. I am happy with what I do; I run my vintage shop called “Voor-gedragen,” and I meet lovely people because of that.
What’s the worst part?
The worst part is that with time, you start to lose people you love. And that my body no longer does what my mind wants, like running and climbing mountains…
What’s your fantasy version of your much older self?
That’s a beautiful question. It forces me to think about it more deeply.
I hope to be someone who is surrounded by many friends. Taking life as it comes, I preferably want to look like Joke from Dress and Go.nl; I adore her hair, to be specific.
Greatest new discovery?
That I am allowed to waste my time sometimes. I don’t have to do something all the time. I can be quiet and sit on the couch to read a book whenever I want to.
What’s your age, and how old do you feel?
I am 63 but I’ll feel 49 forever.
