This is Ellen (42). She is one of my dearest friends.
We’ve known each other since she was 17 and I was 19 years old. At the time, I lived in Milan, Italy. The model agency called one afternoon to tell me that I was about to have a new roommate, a Dutch girl. I will never forget the moment Ellen walked into the apartment, we became instant friends.
Tell us what you’d like us to know about yourself;
I am a mother of two beautiful sons. I married a great man, 2 years ago we moved to a lovely little village. I see myself as a caring, loving and sensitive person.

For the past 17 years, I have been lovingly caring for other people’s children in childcare and senior secondary education. It gives me satisfaction, every day again, to stimulate all those small people and make them shine like tiny stars. In the past worked as a fashion model and later on I also coached young fashion models for many years to keep them on the right track. The fashion industry can be a harsh business, and for many young girls (and boys), it can be hard to find their ways.
Now that I have children myself: Morris (5) and mick (3), I made a choice to invest all my time and love in them. I do still have ambitions. I want to make a career switch as soon as my youngest goes to school. I am just not sure yet what I want to do precisely. We’ll see … I believe that if you really want something in life, you will succeed. But first my boys.
What does aging mean to you?
aging means more wisdom, fewer obstacles, more dare for me, accepting who I really am.
Name an older woman (or women), past or present, whom you admire.
I admire my mother for the strength she has gotten ever since she divorced my dad. At the time she was 34 years old, she took care of my 2 elder sisters and me. Over the past few years, she has had some ups and downs with her health, but because of her strength, she overcomes most struggles. Doctors call her “a mystery.” When I require support or a piece of good advice, she is always there for me. And I know for a fact now; mothers are always right.
What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
The death of my father. That is still a sensitive point, and it will always be.
What is your personal motto?
You are as beautiful as you are.
Knowing yourself now, what would you tell your 80-year-old-self?
I’m glad to say that I have done everything that I have wanted to do with my loved ones.
What does the world need more of?
Respect and friendliness to one and another.
How do you stay healthy, both physically and mentally?
Walking every day, going to the gym twice a week and eating healthy.
What is the first thing you do in the morning to start your day positively?
I give my two gorgeous boys and my lovely husband a kiss and tell them that I love them.
How old are you?
I am 42
