Belgrade’s fashion vibe

Spending three days in Belgrade gave me the excitement of a first-time visitor.

Invited by friends, we traveled from Amsterdam (a quick 2-hour flight) and were pleasantly surprised by the city’s dynamic and inspiring atmosphere.

Having done my homework, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to meet local designers—visionary, entrepreneurial individuals who embody the street fashion scene in all its splendor.

Belgrade, a metropolis whose essence and allure can be discovered through fashion, particularly through designers inspired by life in this bustling capital, curates authentic street fashion. The city boasts a vibrant fashion scene, with an audience that consistently values uniqueness, innovation, and a commitment to the principles of slow and sustainable fashion.

While visiting Belgrade, I highly recommend exploring the shops, workshops, and studios of the local fashion designers. It’s an experience that truly captures the city’s creative spirit.

I began my journey on Kralja Petra Street, winding my way through Knez Mihailova and the nearby streets of Gračanička, Cara Lazara, and Vuka Karadžića, all the way to Makedonska. This path allowed me to immerse myself in Belgrade’s vibrant street fashion scene, discovering its unique style and creative flair. My first stop was the Belgrade Design Hub at Gračanička 9 (IG: @belgrade.design.hub).

This haven is where you can truly encounter the essence of creators shaping modern fashion expression. Conceived as a gathering place for designers with similar standards, this concept store was founded by Jasmina Vujović and Budislava Keković. It offers a diverse range of high-quality clothing, bags, leather goods, hats, and jewelry, all crafted according to slow fashion principles using exceptional materials. The designers showcased here are at the forefront of the domestic fashion scene and regularly participate in Belgrade Fashion Week.

My second stop is the studio of designer Aleksandra Lalić and her brand LalićA, also located at Gračanička 9 (IG: @lalicabg). Aleksandra is a beloved designer whose creations exude optimism, femininity, and attitude. LalićA’s signature styles feature trademark puff sleeves and pockets, essential elements in every skirt and dress, reflecting a unique blend of practical elegance and bold design.

On the same street, you will find the authentic Belgrade brand, Dechko Tzar Flagship Store, located at Gračanička 16 (dechkotzar.com). Renowned for its t-shirts bearing the inscriptions “Dechko Tzar” and “Citza Tzarica,” this brand has swiftly become a favorite and recognizable name in urban fashion. The store offers t-shirts and sweatshirts made from high-quality cotton, inspired by graphic design and clever messages across several collections. Collaborations with the legendary brand, photographer Boogie, and illustrator Di Ujdi further enrich the offerings, which include t-shirts for kids, dresses, socks, wallets, notebooks, and various other accessories that embody the true spirit of Belgrade.

In the neighboring streets of Belgrade, you will find the studio of renowned Serbian designer Dragana Ognjenović, located at Cara Lazara 9 (draganaognjenovic.com). Celebrated as the queen among Belgrade designers, Dragana’s style is characterized by classic, understated pieces crafted from the finest materials. Her timeless designs reflect elegance and sophistication, solidifying her status as a leading figure in the city’s fashion scene.

Nearby, Marija Tarlac operates her showroom at Ivan Begova 3 (marijatarlac.com). Since founding her brand in 2012, Marija has been known for creating unique, specially tailored pieces that are effortlessly wearable. Her designs blend softness and structure, minimalism and maximalism, and perfection and imperfection, resulting in a distinctive style that appeals to a wide range of fashion enthusiasts.

Another designer to discover in Belgrade is Vesna Kracanović with her brand Modle, located at Čubrina 10. Vesna is known for her innovative designs that combine modern aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship. Modle offers a range of clothing and accessories that highlight meticulous attention to detail and a unique sense of style, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring the vibrant fashion scene of Belgrade. Designer Ana Ljubinković is another must-see in Belgrade, with her showroom located at Dečanska 5 in Eurocentar (ana-ljubinkovic.com). Ana is renowned for her whimsical and avant-garde designs, which often feature bold colors, intricate details, and a playful yet sophisticated aesthetic. Her creations are a true reflection of artistic expression and fashion innovation, making her a standout figure in Belgrade’s fashion landscape.

This community originated from my love for photography, fashion, lifestyle, and consciousness. After I turned 40 I started to miss inspiring websites with coolness and authenticity towards aging.
