4 Things I’ve learned while getting older

For someone who’s 65, I’m young; to a 25-year-old, I’m old. At 49, I’m right in the middle—not truly young, not exactly old.

It can feel strange to sit in this in-between space. Most days, I feel ageless, swinging between the energy of 30 and 35, though on some days, I feel ancient, as if I’m 120.

Reflecting, my 25-year-old self feels like a lifetime ago, yet sometimes it feels just like yesterday. I’ve learned so much, some lessons the hard way. Thinking optimistically, if I live to 100, I’m only halfway through. I often wonder: What lessons are still waiting? Will they be new insights or familiar ones I haven’t fully absorbed?

Just last week, I hit yet another wall—a clear sign from my gut, one I’d seen coming but ignored. It wasn’t a surprise, just disappointment in myself for not listening. It’s funny how some lessons keep reappearing, cleverly disguised, until we finally absorb them fully. This particular lesson has knocked on my door many times, and its persistence only confirms that I haven’t addressed it yet.

One of last week’s key lessons was to always trust my gut feeling—she is always right. Another reminder was to express myself clearly and stand firmly in owning who I am and what I believe.

As I reflect, I see these lessons repeating, each time with a sharper edge, as if life is waiting for them to truly sink in while I wait for yet another storm to pass. Storms like these never come alone; they arrive in threes, and I hope the worst has passed, ushering in some calm. Or will a fourth wave catch me off guard?

Either way, I stay alert and prepared for whatever comes next, with some extra self-care for my mind, body, and soul. I focus on doing as little as possible that disrupts my peace, prioritizing what strengthens and steadies me.

4 Things I’ve learned while getting older

Trust Your Gut Feeling; She’s Always Right

There’s something to be said about intuition—it’s often based on our accumulated experiences and subconscious observations. Trusting your gut means honoring your inner wisdom, which can lead you to choices aligned with your true self.

Shitstorms Will Pass

Life’s challenges can feel overwhelming, but every storm eventually settles. This lesson is a reminder that resilience grows when we accept that tough times are temporary, and brighter days are always on the horizon.

Taking Care of Yourself—Mind, Body, and Soul—is the Best Investment You’ll Ever Make

Investing in self-care pays off more than we might realize in our younger years. When you prioritize your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being, you build a foundation that supports you through life’s highs and lows.

If It Ruins Your Peace, It’s Not Worth It

Peace is priceless. As we age, we understand that our energy and mental well-being are worth protecting. This principle reminds us to set boundaries, let go of negativity, and choose what truly adds value to our lives.
